The Villa Capri Cruisers Car Club was formed in 1994 and named after the Villa Capri Restaurant which was located on Moosic Street in Scranton’s South Side. This was an old hangout for many of the club members in the late 50s and early 60s. If you had a hot car back then, this is where you went to show off your machine. Next to the Villa Capri was the Acme market. This was also a gathering spot for performance buffs in the late 60s. Right up the road on route 307 is the famous “Quarter Mile”. This was where the men and some ladies were separated from the boys and girls.
In the spring of 1993, the word went out to anyone who hung around at these sites in years past to talk about forming a car club. The group met at the donut shop on top of Moosic Street. The turnout was well beyond the expectations of the organizers, and the Villa Capri Cruisers Car Club was born. Today the Club has over 60 members.
